Oney Inez Hambright

Oney Inez Hambright, 91, lifelong resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away peacefully, December 15, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her family. Born November 21, 1931, to Neat and Lewis Dodd. Oney had been a faithful member of Philippi Baptist Church since December 8, 1996. She served as her Sunday school class secretary and was part of the ladies’ ministry in preparing food and serving it to families during the death of their loved one.

An interesting fact, that Bob loved to tell, was the homeplace that she lived on was in the middle of Peerless Road and Paul Huff Parkway. The strawberry field on the hill, it was where she met her husband, Bob, he carried her strawberries down the hill for her. After that simple act of kindness turned into a marriage of 75 years.

Oney and Bob was always together. They loved to walk at the mall and work in the garden together. Oney was a very talented woman, she could paint, crochet, embroidery, quilt and anything she set her mind too.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law, Maxine Hambright; brother-in-law, George Hambright; niece and nephew, Beth and Keith Hambright.

Survivors include her husband of 75 years, Robert “Bob” Hambright; daughter who she loved and very proud of, Joyce Hambright and her fur baby; sister-in-law, Jimmie Hambright; brothers-in-law, John Hambright, Donald and HL Knightand; nephew, Mike Hambright; great-niece and nephews, Laurie (Travis) Weber, Chris (Tonya) Hambright; great-great nieces, Violet and Lily Hambright.

Although no biological grandchildren, she loved Luke (Hannah) Sneed as a grandchild. He was a bright and shining blessing to them. Oney considered John (Donna) Elliott as the son she never had. Through the years, Oney had many friends. She was such a interesting, sweet soul. She would catch you off guard with her quick witt. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 22, 2022, 1:00 PM, at Philippi Baptist Church with Dr Sammy Hooker and Nathan Sneed will officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, prior to the serivce at the church  with pallbearers Chris Hambright, Luke and Charlie Sneed, Mark Nation, Jimmy and Kenneth Elliott.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Hambright, Donald and HL knight.
