Nena Faye Hawkins

March 2, 1946 — January 10, 2023

Nena Faye Thomas Hawkins, “Grammy”, 76 of East Ridge, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.


Nena was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading, sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. Nena was born and raised in the Chattanooga area. She was a 1965 graduate of Kirkman High School and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Nena and her late husband, John R. Hawkins, Jr., married in 1972 and raised 4 children together.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John R. Hawkins, Jr.; son, John “Nick” Hawkins; sister, Frances Everhart; and brother, Edward Thomas.


She is survived by her sons: Thomas (Michelle) Hawkins and Chad (Katelyn) Hawkins; daughter, Shannon (Rob) Batzloff; grandchildren: Malia Flowers, Taylor (Justin) McCullough, and Autumn (Aaron) Patterson; Bailey, Zoey & Avery Batzloff; Austin, Hallie, Jonathan Harris; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna & Shirley Thomas; brother, Jerry (Nancy)Thomas; and several special nieces & nephews.


A graveside service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, February 3, at 2:30pm. The service is open to all family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hearth Hospice at www.hearthhospice.com/make_a_donation.
