Nell Garrison

Nell Garrison, 86 of Cleveland passed away Saturday March 14, 2020 with her beloved family by her side.
She was born to the late Ben H. and Retha M. Foster on December 21, 1933. She was preceded in death by her brother, Travis Foster and sister Betty Jo Vick of Harpersville Alabama. Nell is survived by two children: Trish Garrison Ball (Rocky) of Atlanta Georgia and Robby Garrison (Debbie) of Cleveland Tennessee, sister Janice Foster Simms (John) of Jasper, Alabama, brother-in-law Gerald Vick of Harpersville, Alabama and many much loved nieces and nephews.
Nell and her husband J.C. were the fixed based operators at Hardwick Field Cleveland Tennessee for 35 years, retiring in 2007. She loved greeting the pilots and always had a pot of hot coffee and good conversation ready. She especially enjoyed working with the young instructors who went on to have successful careers in aviation. Her son was a captain for Piedmont/USAir and daughter and daughter-in-law were flight attendants for USAir. Nell participated in her children's school functions and was most always a "room mother" and rarely missed a PTA meeting.
She was a studied cook of the old Southern school. Her cornbread dressing, biscuits and chocolate gravy were simply the best. She always made extra portions to distribute to others throughout the neighborhood. Her desire was to have her family, friends and animals well fed!
Nell was known for her generosity and friendly personality. She offered undying love and loyalty for those who were her friends and If you were fortunate enough to be her friend, it was for life! Her counsel was always sought after and appreciated.
She was a member of North Cleveland Baptist Church and loved singing the old hymns. Mom could often be heard humming her favorite spiritual songs while walking through the house.
She planned our family vacation every summer to the beach where we were joined with our aunts, uncles, cousins and friends-memories that our family will forever hold dear. She was our best friend.
Nell loved watching Alabama college football with her son Robby and shopping with her daughter Trish and daughter-in-law Debbie.
More than anything in the world she loved her family and we loved her!
Visitation will be at Companion Funeral Home on Thursday March 19 from 5-7 PM. A family burial ceremony will be held at Gray Rock Baptist Church in Phil Campbell Al on a later date.
