Matthew William Shaw, “Uncle Matt”, 46, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, September 12,
2021.
Matthew was born October 1, 1974 in Augsburg, Germany. He graduated from Bradley Central
High School class of ‘93. Matthew proudly served as a Combat Medic in the United States
Army, including two tours in Iraq. Matthew was an avid outdoorsman who toured Europe by
motorcycle, snowboarded in the Alps, went SCUBA diving in the Mediterranean, and guided
many on river adventures throughout the southern US.
Matthew lived a vibrant, albeit brief, life. His friends, fellow soldiers, family, and especially his
nieces and nephew meant more to him than words can describe. Uncle Matt will always hold a
special place in the hearts of nieces, Ashley, Aynslee, Olivia and Addisyn, and nephew, Owen.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Patricia Shaw, father, F. Scott Shaw Jr., brother, Scott
(Allison) Shaw, and sister, Jennifer (Kathy) Clark. He is also dearly missed by his beloved dog,
Shadow.
There will be a memorial service September 24 at 4pm. at St. Martin of Tours Episcopal
Church, 7547 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, with a reception to follow. (masks required)
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
