Mary Elizabeth Scott Laster

Mary Elizabeth Scott Laster, 87, of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, passed away on Christmas Eve 2022 with her loving husband by her side, as well as her children.

Mary was born and raised in Paris, TN. She went to Grove High School, where she met the love of her life, to whom she was married to for 71 wonderful years.

After her husband’s service in the Army, they moved to Chattanooga and then to Ft. Oglethorpe, where they lived for 62 years until her Lord and Savior called her to her eternal home.

Mary was deeply loved by so many. She shared her love of the Lord with everyone she met. To know her was to love her, and we were all blessed to have her in our lives. Her sweet spirit and her love for Jesus was a true testament to the life she lived.

Mary was devoted to and lived for her family. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, sewing, and traveling with her husband. Mary was of the Baptist faith and a member of Peavine Baptist Church in Rock Spring, GA.

Mary is survived by her husband, Donald H. Laster; son, Steve (Rhonda) Laster of Eden, NC; daughters, Donna (Greg) Goza of Chickamauga, GA, Cindy (Kent) Halpin of Ringgold, GA, and Gina (Rod) Haney of Ringgold, GA; 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Jo Ann Lamb of Little Rock, AR; 3 nephews and 1 niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Buton Scott of Paris, TN; brother, Ed Scott of Knoxville, TN; and her first-born grandchild, Robert Michael “Bobby” Laster of Rossville, GA.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
