Luke Octave Morin Iii

Luke Octave Morin III of Chattanooga, Tennessee died peacefully at home with his daughter by his side on June 23, 2020.

He was the son of Luke Octave Morin, Jr., and Conetta Lee Sloan Morin of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee and grandson of Nevins Steffner Sloan and Conetta Estelle Lee Sloan of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee and Luke Octave Morin and Mabel Morin of Los Angeles, California.

Luke was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on July 15, 1941. He attended the Lookout Mountain School and Darlington School in Rome, Georgia where he graduated in 1960. After high school, he came back to Chattanooga and attended the University of Chattanooga where he graduated in 1966. He served in the Army Reserves and went to work for Hamilton National Bank after graduation. Luke later went to work for the J.R. Richards Company, which later became the Morin Company. He owned Heirloom Designs years later. In continuing the entrepreneurial spirit, he created his Luke’s “Soon To Be Famous” Marinade, which he bottled and sold to restaurants, caterers and gourmet grocery stores. Luke had recently become a driver for Uber, which he loved doing since he never met a stranger.

Luke, also known as King Big Hog, was full of life and lived a life that Epicurus would have envied. His last request was for family and friends to “toast and enjoy”. The world will be a lesser place without his humor and kindness. The memories and stories of his life will live on for many years.

Luke is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Lee Morin Franck. He is survived by his former wife, Margaret McLean Lytle Morin, his devoted daughter, Elizabeth Lee Morin, stepson William Nicholas Bratcher (Maggie), granddaughters Madeline Grace Bratcher, Chloe Kate Baldino and Gianna Isabella Baldino, and several nieces, a nephew, and close cousins.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful people who have helped Luke over past three years and Amedysis for their service.

Donations in memory of Luke can be made to CHI Memorial Foundation for the Cancer Center at 2525 DeSales Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37404.

There will be a private burial with family and a celebration of life at a later date.
