Louise Satterthwaite Boles

June 27, 1936 — April 3, 2023

Louise Swanson Satterthwaite was born June 27, 1936, in Plymouth, NC to Asa Vance Satterthwaite and Sarah Louise Satterthwaite. She was the oldest of 14 children (two died at birth). Her dad worked as a farmer and did some construction work on bridges. There was not much money in the household, so Louise endured many hardships growing up as a child. She also helped raise her younger siblings. Her favorite childhood memory was going to the beach at Nags Head, NC on the outer banks with several friends as part of a school trip. (where interestingly, she would later go on her honeymoon). The family occasionally attended the Episcopal Church, but a literature evangelist introduced them to the Adventist faith and mom, her mother, and several siblings became Seventh-day Adventists. Mom remained a faithful Adventist Christian her whole life.

Louise attended Southern Missionary College in Collegedale, TN where she met James W. Boles her Freshman year (who had just served four years in the U.S. Airforce). These two soon fell in love and were married that next June 26, 1955. They were married for 67 years. They had two children, Judi, was born in Dalton, GA on June 9, 1960; and Sam was born in Orlando, FL on January 6, 1962. Jim and Louise lived in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, and then Atlanta GA where they began Bindex Incorporated in 1975, selling commercial equipment. Louise was the faithful office administrator and CFO. She kept things running and was the key to its success. After retirement in 2003, Jim and Louise moved to beautiful Andrews, NC where they lived for 15 years. In 2018 they moved to Grindstone Estates in Collegedale, TN to be near their daughter and son-in-law, Judi and David.

Louise’s hobbies include church work, she served as church secretary, treasurer, deaconess, and women’s ministry coordinator. She also was an avid reader and loved to take trips to McKay’s to pick out a stash of books to read. She also enjoyed knitting and made hundreds of caps for military personnel and underprivileged school children. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Louise loved holding and cuddling her great-grandchildren and watching them grow! She also loved her kittycats, Sweet Pea and Abby.

Louise was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer just after Christmas and later developed congestive heart failure. She passed peacefully to her rest on April 3, 2023, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, Jim Boles of Ooltewah, TN; two sisters, Sarah (Dana) Ulloth of Bloomsburg, PA and Gloria Radke of Grand Rapids, MI, and one brother, Asa Satterthwaite of Sharon, SC; two children, Judi (David) Hartman of Ooltewah, TN and Sam (Beth) Boles of Annapolis, MD; three grandchildren, Matthew (Lis) Hartman of Brentwood, TN, Beth (Ben) Crerar of Ooltewah, TN, and Sasha (Pasha) Skidanenko of Vladivostok, eastern Russia; also, six great grandchildren, Maxwell, Miles, Wesley, Shepard, Aleksey, and Lena. Louise will be buried at the Collegedale Cemetery in Collegedale, TN on April 16, 2023.
