Lebron Layne

September 29, 1940 — February 20, 2023

Lebron Layne, 82, lifelong resident of Chattanooga, TN, went to be with our Lord & Savior, Monday, February 20, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Born September 29, 1940, to the late Robert and Beatrice Lee Cookston Layne. Lebron graduated from Red Bank High School in 1958. He joined the United States Navy, which he served 6 years, 2 years of Active Duty, 4 years of the US Navy Reserve. He was Deployed for Sea Service 7 of those months. Lebron was a member of the Us Navy Band which he played the trombone during this time as well.


He worked for ICI America for 37 years, which he served as Security for The Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant in Chattanooga, which was built during WWII to supply TNT and was again reactivated during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

He also worked thru Walden Security, serving Security for The Electric Power Board of Chattanooga for 24 years.

Lebron was of Church of God faith, he loved TN Vols, Fishing, and above all spending time with family.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, JR Layne, James Layne, and Gary Layne; sisters, Gevoda Hickman, JoAnn Henley, and Bobby Moody; daughter, Mary Angela Smith; son, Wayne Lee Ashby, and son-in-law, Barry Stone.


Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Jane Bowling Layne; sons, David Lewis (Jane) and Tommy Ashby (Sheila); daughter, Pamela Denise Stone; siblings, Jerry Layne (Linda) and Donna Creekmore; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.


The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, Monday, February 27, 2023, at Companion Funeral Home, followed by the service in the chapel at 12:00 PM. Burial will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. Jason Smith, Wayne Ashby, Jamie Ashby, Blake Stephens, Wesley Ashby, Levi Ashby, all serving as pallbearers.
