Lawrence Hankins

Lawrence Hankins, 81, of Hixson, TN, passed away November 19, 2022. Born June 30, 1941, to the late Johnnie Clyde and Laura Ann Swafford Hankins, in Pikeville, TN. Lawrence was a kind and tender-hearted man. He worked many years as a truck driver, driving local and cross country. He liked cars and tinkered with them, owning a ’68 Ford Mustang and a ’64 Chevy long wheel base pickup; he liked cars that would later become collector’s items. His first car was a Ford Model A, which he bought in 1953, before he could legally drive; he drove it up and down the lane. Fishing was also a favorite pastime.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several siblings, including a twin at birth, Florence Hankins; step-brothers and step-sisters, D.E, David, J.C., Landel, Walter, and Stevie Hankins; Mary Lou H. McClendon, Jewel H. Wyatt, Thompson, York, Dan, Tunney, and Nelma Dunn; Eleanor D. Hurst, Lela D. Thurman, Thelma D. Thurman, Ruby D. Roberts, and Mary Ann D. Seals.

Survived by his wife, Deborah Hankins, of Hixson, TN; sons, Randall, Carl (Jeanne), Roger, and Jarrod Hankins; daughter, Beth (John) Tweed; grandchildren, Jennifer, Billy, Nikki, Heather, Kelley, Kevin, Alexis, and, Tyler; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Junior (Shirley) Hankins; step-sister, Jewelene Vineyard; and several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at McDowell Cemetery, with a memorial service at a later date. Arrangements by Companion Funeral Home, Cleveland, TN.
