Kunja Mikolajczyk

March 3, 1936 — September 23, 2022

On September 23, after her health had subtly declined, Kunja died peacefully in Cleveland at the age of 86.

Kunja is survived by her daughter Kris (Jimmy-she claimed as the best son-in-law in the world) her grandsons Mitchell & Mason, several nieces and nephews & their families, and devoted friend Margie. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry of over 50 years.

They met while Henry was in the Army in Korea and they fell in love instantly. They communicated using translators and also wrote many letters while initially separated across the seas. They were married and lived in Chicago then Palatine, Illinois and finally settled in Tennessee.

Kunja was an avid gardener, fabulous cook, and loved pampering her grandkids and granddog. One of her favorite activities was playing cards whether with her close friends, immediate family or extended family especially during the holidays.

After several years of the utmost care from her family physician, this last year she was blessed to spend as a resident of Legacy Village in memory care. The entire staff, (office, reception, dining, maintenance and especially the therapists & resident assistants & nurses) took excellent care of her, loved her genuinely and treated her like family. Some even learned Korean words much to her joy. Hospice of Chattanooga & the Cleveland office were also an integral part of her life. The care they provided was invaluable but especially during her last moments.

A private interment will take place where she will finally join her beloved husband Henry, an Army veteran, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
