John Edward Thomas Pierce

Obituary
John Edward Thomas Pierce, 24, of Cleveland, TN passed away on Thursday September 18, 2014 in a Chattanooga Hospital. He was born on September 13, 1990 to Terry and Dotty Pierce. John had been a resident of Cleveland for the past thirteen years, after moving here with his family from Laurel, MS in 2001. He was a member of First Baptist Church. John received his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in December of 2013. An incredible athlete and outdoorsman, John thrived on adventure and challenge. As team Captain and Quarterback, John helped lead his high school football to the state championship in 2008. He was an extremely hard-working, dedicated, and tenacious soul with an entrepreneur’s mind and the drive to push himself to be great. Charismatic and disarmingly clever, John touched the lives of all he met. Above all things, John was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend who brought light to this world. His legacy of passion for life and kindness will live on through his family and friends. He lived fully and with an open heart. Heaven took on a warrior.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Dorothy and Edward Kirby and Wade and Ruby Pierce. To cherish his memory, he leaves behind his father and mother: Terry and Dotty Pierce; two sisters: Rebecca Pierce and Ann Pierce; five brothers: Matt Pierce (Claudia), Adam Pierce, Timothy Pierce, Daniel Pierce, and Brian Pierce; two nieces that loved their uncle John: Kendall Pierce and Kenzie Pierce. In addition to these, he leaves behind several other aunts, uncles, and extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 5:30pm on Sunday September 21, 2014 at First Baptist Church Cleveland, located at 1275 Stuart Road, Cleveland, TN 37312 with Rev. Derek Simpson and Dr. Allan Lockerman officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-5:00pm prior to the service at the church. Interment will be following the service at Tasso United Methodist Cemetery. John's brothers and Chandler Burke will be serving as pallbearers. Katie Smith, R.J. Miller, Daren Brauss, Aaron Meeker, Stephen Delahoussaye, and Clayton Lewis are serving as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Manna Ministry or Missions Fund at First Baptist Church so that John’s name may be taken around the world. You are invited to share a personal memory of John or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral and Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Pierce family with these arrangements.
