Joe Boyd Tyner

Joe Boyd Tyner, 86. a longtime resident of Cleveland, TN passed away on Friday afternoon, November 25th, 2016 in a local hospital. He was born in Kannapolis, NC on September 19th, 1930 the oldest son of the late O’Neal & Eva Tyner. Joe was deacon at First Baptist Cleveland where he also served as treasurer for many years until becoming a member of Westwood Baptist Church. He was one of the founding board members of the Cleveland Boys Club. Joe owned and operated Cooper’s Bookstore for many years. Joe went on to work for several more years at Bob Card Ford and also Gray Epperson Automotive. While serving on the School board, he was on the planning and building committee of Cleveland High School in the mid 60’s. Joe served 35 years as vice chairman of the Cleveland Housing authority. But most of all, Joe was loved by many family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death a great grandson Jaxson Kidd.

Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of thirty three years Loraine Tyner, children David Tyner and his wife Connie, Karen Walker and her husband Tommy and Kathy Hill and her husband Artis, two step children Lorie Puckett and Barry Snyder and his wife Jill. He is also survived by ten grandchildren Shanna Chastain, Kylie Kidd (Johnny), Arley Miracle, Treyson Hill, Cotter Hill, Trista Tyner, Ryan Tyner, Morgan Burke (Chandler), Eryn Walker, Madelyn Walker, for step grandchildren Keelie Puckett, Cade Puckett, Sarah Snyder and Sam Snyder, nine great grandchildren, two sisters Gloria Tyner Hughes of Clover, SC and Debbie Tyner Scheringer of Mary Esther, FL and one brother Jerry Tyner (Doris) of Mobile, AL. He is also survived by numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

A celebration of his life is planned for Monday evening, November 28th, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 2419 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Jim Caywood and the Reverend Wayne Finnell officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday evening in the funeral home parlor from 3:00 PM until the 7:00 PM service time.

The family will hold a private interment on Tuesday, November 29th, 2016 in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Leroy Bowman, Lawrence Gentry, Gene Harris, Harold Reno, Wayne Finnell, Larry Keller & Joe Manning.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made in Joe’s memory to the Westwood Baptist Church building fund.
