Joan was born on November 25, 1931, to Walter Howard and Nell Laverne (Selby) Landphere in Bison, SD. On September 24, 1949, she married Richard Warren Chord in Rapid City, SD. Together they raised four children: Warren LeRoy Chord of Gillette, WY, Daniel Howard (Patty) Chord of Riceville, TN, Edith Esther (Dan) Black of Calhoun, TN, and Robert Wayne Chord. She found great joy in her twenty grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Joan loved her Savior and served Him faithfully. Her husband was blessed to have her as a helpmeet for seventy-three and a half years. They ministered together in many places, including twenty years in Jamaica.

Joan is survived by her husband: Richard Warren Chord, and two sisters: Fern Brockel of Belle Fourche, SD, and Mary Lee Drake of Bison, SD.

She was preceded in death by her son: Bob Chord, a brother: Gene Landphere, and a sister: Margarette Chapman.

Visitation for Joan will be at Companion Funeral Home in Cleveland, TN on Monday May 15th, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a service immediately following. She will then be transported to Sturgis, SD where visitation will also be held at Black Hills Funeral home on Friday May 19, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a funeral service the following day May 20, at 2:00 PM. Burial will immediately follow the May 20th 2:00 PM service at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
