Jimmie Lamar Beavers

June 19, 1942 — February 14, 2016

Jimmie Lamar Beavers, age 73, passed away February 14, 2016. Jim was born in Chattanooga on June 19, 1942 to Martha Marie and John Clyde Beavers and had two older brothers and two younger sisters. He lived in Birchwood going thru first grade until his family moved to Akron, Ohio where he lived until 1974. He graduated from East High school in Akron where he was very active in all sports and attended Kent and Akron University. Jim returned to Chattanooga to work at Combustion Engineering in 1974 and later worked for John Deere and Astec Underground in Loudon, TN until his retirement in 2005. He was a veteran with the United States Navy and served during the Cuban Crisis. Jim loved watching sports on TV. He was very much a people person and never met a stranger. He also did a lot of boating with his wife and friends and had a lot of cookouts. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gene and sister Debbie. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Wanda, and three sons, James L. (Kelly) of Mentor, Ohio; John E. (Tracy) of Akron, Ohio and Travis Watson of Chattanooga. One brother, Julian (Sylvia) Beavers of Birchwood, TN and sister, Joyce Vaughn of Akron, Ohio. He also has 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Jim was of the Presbyterian faith. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday February 19, 2016 at Greenwood Baptist Church located at 8529 Snow Hill Road, Ooltewah, TN 37363. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until 1:00pm prior to the service. An interment will take place at McInturff cemetery in Birchwood, TN following the service.
