Javier Giraldo

January 6, 1934 — October 8, 2021

Javier Giraldo, 87, of Cleveland, TN, passed away Friday, October 8th, 2021, at his residence, accompanied by his family.

He was born Francisco Javier Giraldo, on January 6th, 1934, in Pereira, Risaralda, Colombia, South America. He was the fourth oldest of sixteen brothers and sisters. Javier was preceded in death by his parents Jesus Maria and Rosa Elena Giraldo, and his siblings Oriol, Gamaliel, Margarita, and Guillermo.

As a child, he dreamed of leaving his country of origin to discover far off places. And in 1967, he moved to the United States shortly after getting married, starting a family, and leaving behind his work as the treasurer of The National Federation of Coffee Growers in Caecidonia, Colombia.

Upon arriving in the U.S., he learned a variety of trades and lived in New Orleans and in Arabi, Louisiana, before retiring to Cleveland, TN. There, he established a homestead on acres of rolling hills. He tended to plants and animals alike, keeping multiple gardens and caring for dogs, cats, chickens, goats, and sheep.

He was known for his handcrafted cheese and cookies; his smile and his spirit of kindness; his humility and his heart. Javier enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, woodworking, and listening to music.

Left behind to cherish his memory, are his loving wife, Luz Danelia; children: Juan Carlos, Luz Nancy, and Clara Ines; grandchildren: Carlos Andres, Daniel Jose, and Javier Alberto; great-grandchildren: Sophia Isabel, Natalia Andrea, and Chloe; siblings: Ubaldo, German, Hernan, Bertha, Julian, Helena, Juan Diego, Martha Lucia, Omar, Alberto, and Jesus Antonio, as well as several extended family members, and a host of friends.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Javier Giraldo will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, in Cleveland, with family and friends.

Companion Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
