Obituary for James Wade Westerfield


James Wade Westerfield, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on May 30, 2023, at Bradley Health and Rehab in Cleveland, Tennessee. He was 77 years old. Born on September 14, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana, James was the son of Clarence and Doris (Bough) Westerfield.


James was a proud Vietnam veteran, having served his country with honor and dedication. He will be remembered for his bravery and sacrifice during his military service. James, affectionately known as "Jimmy" to those close to him, had a warm and kind-hearted nature that endeared him to all who knew him.


In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Westerfield of Indiana, and a special fur baby, Scooder. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, treasured by his surviving loved ones.

James is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Virginia Bass Westerfield of Cleveland, TN, and his daughters, Angelia (Shawn) Hickmon of Dayton, TN. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Westerfield of Lawrenceville, GA, and his special niece, Ruth Westerfield (Roger) Baldwin of South Carolina. James will be deeply missed by his granddaughter, Makayla Hickmon of Dayton, TN.


In addition, James is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Kandice Merchant of Thomaston, GA, and his mother-in-law, Sharlene Bass of Thomaston, GA. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, including Tylor Pitts, Tapanga Merchant, and Koltyn Merchant of Thomaston, GA. James found joy and companionship in his special fur babies, Boston and Paco.


A Memorial Service to celebrate James' life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to come together and honor his memory. During this time, they will remember his warm smile, his gentle nature, and the impact he had on their lives.


James Wade Westerfield will forever be remembered as a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a true patriot. His legacy of love, strength, and kindness will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
