James Madison Price

James “Jim” Madison Price, 96, of Athens, TN went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 5, 2016. He was born on January 27, 1920 to the late Sam Allen Price and Ethel Henderson Price. Jim was a lifelong resident of Athens. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Jim was very proud of the service he was able to give for his country. He was an avid guitar player, playing for the church choir and many different gospel music groups. He was a member of Boyd Memorial Church of God where he also served as a Sunday School Superintendent. Jim also enjoyed spending time at the flea market and bowling alley watching his friends and grandchildren bowl. Above all things, Jim loved his family dearly and spending time with them.
In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by his wife Alma Elizabeth Price; daughter and son in law Betty and Tooter Collins; brothers: Clyde Price, Arthur Price, and Chuck Price; grandson Jim Bogie.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory children Rev. Jimmy and Jewell Price and Tom and Lavenia Sparks; sister Odell McPhail; grandchildren: Adam Price, Carla Price and Wendell Wolfe, Karen and Junior Carroll, Lynn and Betty Collins, Lisa and Terry Nelson, Linda Freeman, Bobby and Cheryl Richardson, and Chad Brackett; fourteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday June 8, 2016 at Boyd Memorial Church of God located at 1130 N. Congress Parkway, Athens, TN with Rev. Jimmy Price and Rev. Frank Kincannon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00pm until 2:00pm prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will follow the service in McMinn Memory Gardens with full military honors. TJ Nelson, Dustin Nelson, Josh Wilcox, Sean Wilcox, AJ Price, Tanner Collins, Carson Gary, and Steve Partain will be serving as pallbearers.
