James Joseph Boyer

James J. “Jimmy” Boyer, age 52, of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Staunton, IL, passed away surrounded by his brother and sister in law at their home on February 8, 2023. James was born on January 31, 1971 to John and Rebecca (Seger) Boyer in Belleville, IL. James is the dear father of Megan (Dillon) Lawrence of San Antonio, Texas and Ashley Boyer of Staunton, IL. He is the beloved brother of John (Monica) Boyer also of Chattanooga, TN and Susan (Juan) Cruz of Coamo, Puerto Rico. James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rebecca (Seger) Boyer as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.


James is survived by his two loving daughters, Megan (Dillon) Lawrence and Ashley Boyer. His brother, John (Monica) Boyer, sister Susan (Juan) Cruz as well as his dear nephews and nieces: Logan (Laynie) Boyer, Gabrielle (Mike Mihelcic) Boyer, Dalton (Whitney) Honnies, Taylor (Zachary) Rhodes, and great nephews and niece, Lincoln Boyer, Maris Rhodes and Grady Honnies. Jimmy is also survived by his ex-wife, friend, and mother of his daughters, Jennifer (Boettcher) Boyer of Staunton as well as his uncles and several cousins.


Jimmy loved life and being with his family. The most simple happenings in life made Jimmy happy. He was well known for his kind and genuine personality. Jimmy was proud to have worked as custodian at Staunton Unit Schools for several years and made many special friends during his time there. His move to Tennessee in 2021 was one of his proudest accomplishments as he became a member of Labor Local 846 of Chattanooga and worked as a union laborer for Shimmick Construction Company. As always, Jimmy’s respectful nature made him fit in with his new coworkers and he leaves behind many friends.


As per Jimmy’s wishes, direct cremation has taken place at Companion Funeral Home in Cleveland, TN. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held in Staunton, IL in the near future.
