James Howard Floyd

James Howard Floyd, loving husband, father, pop, and friend, passed away on June 13, 2022. He is preceded by his parents Marie and U.H. Floyd, son Christopher Howard Floyd, and granddaughter Haley Lynn Jones. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Melba Floyd, his loving son Kris C. Jones, and his granddaughters Riley Madison and Hannah Victoria Jones. He is also survived by his brother John Floyd (DeAnn), his nieces Julie (Kristen) Jones, Beth (Taylor) Caine, and his great nephew John Patrick Jones.

Jim was born on January 11th, 1943 in York, Alabama where he grew up and graduated from Fayette County High School in June of 1960. He attended Howard College (Samford University) graduating in 1965 with a degree of pharmacy. Shortly after graduation he moved to Cleveland, TN, where he began his pharmacy career working for Moore Drug Company. Jim was also the co-owner of Crawford and Floyd Pharmacy in the 1980s.

Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and served as a captain and commanding officer of the 544th EOD squad until his honorable discharge in 1972.

Jim returned to Cleveland and resumed his employment with Moore Drug Company at Medical Center Pharmacy, Super Discount Pharmacy, and retired from Walgreens Pharmacy in 2017 after serving the Cleveland area for 52 years. Over those years, he served many people in the community, filling prescriptions, giving fatherly advice, and always spreading his infectious laugh.

He was a member of Wesley United Memorial Methodist Church where he had served on numerous committees. During his years at Wesley, he founded the Cornerstone Sunday school class, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Asbury Sunday school class. He touched the lives of many young people when serving with the youth. He had the ability to interact with any age group.

Jim was a member of the Cleveland Emmaus Community beginning in the early 1980’s. He led walks, served on many teams, served on the board, as well as served as a community Lay Director. Jim was also instrumental in bringing Chrysalis to our community as well.

He loved all things Alabama football, roll tide! He loved golf, old westerns, and singing in the church choir.

Through several health challenges, Jim was never one to complain. He always carried himself with humor, dignity, and grace. Jim’s life was full of joy and his proudest moments were always centered around his family. He enjoyed many vacations with Jane, Mark, and Sarah Crisp, and Lindsay and Tyler Sain.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 18th, at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church at 3pm with visitation prior from 1pm until 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wesley Memorial Methodist Church for the Mexico Missions trip. This is a yearly trip that provides medical and pharmacological care to people in rural Mexico. Jim had a passion for medical missions serving on trips to Jamaica, Guatemala, and most recently to Mexico with Pastor Torres. Donations can also be made to Pastoral Discretionary, Sack Pack, or the Wesley United Methodist Memorial Garden.
