James Ellis Withrow Sr.

July 9, 1932 — April 14, 2023

James “Jim” Ellis Withrow Sr., 90, of Charleston, TN, and a lifelong resident of Bradley County, went to be home with his Lord and Savior on April 14, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. Jim was born on July 9, 1932 in Meigs County, TN to the late Lester and Buelah Withrow. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was employed with Burlington Woolen Mills, Hardwick Stove Company, and retired from Maytag Corporation. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, and was well known for his athletic ability in baseball and softball. He loved to garden and tend to his fruit orchards. He was a proud member of the 101st Screaming Eagles Airborne Division and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He had a tremendous love for his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.


In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by the love of his life of 64 years, Marlene Withrow; brothers: Bill Withrow, Orvil Withrow, Pat WIthrow, Henry Withrow, Charlie Withrow, Bob Withrow, and Cliff Withrow; sisters: Annie Withrow, Joyce Withrow Murphy, and Dorothy Withrow Dixon.


He leaves behind to cherish his memory his two children: James Ellis Withrow Jr. (Robin) and Stephen Lynn Withrow (Shannon); grandchildren: Jeremy Withrow (Teaha), Jason Withrow (Rebekah), Bailey Turner (Derek), and Katie Landrith (Sam); great grandchildren: Tyler, Trevor, and Jameson Withrow, Charlotte Blair, Annie Kate Turner, and Everett Glenn Landrith; sisters: Frances Campbell and Helen Ridgeway; brothers: Doyle Withrow (Barbara), Carl Withrow (Martha), Dave Withrow (Charlene), Cecil Withrow (Mitzi); sisters-in-law Agnes Withrow, Patsy Ownby, Marie Myers (Ray); and several nieces, nephews, and special friend Brenda King.


Jim’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the Genitive Hospice Team as well as the Eaton Corporation and Duracell for allowing Jimmy and Steve to spend as much time as needed with their Dad during his last few weeks.


The Withrow family will receive friends from 2pm-4pm on Thursday April 20th at the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home. A graveside service will immediately follow visitation at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Judy Scott officiating. Jeremy Withrow, Jason Withrow, Tyler Withrow, Jeff Withrow, Tanner Withrow, and Jeff Wilson will serve as pallbearers.
