Jakie George Godfrey

“Jake” Jakie George Godfrey, 93, of Etowah, TN passed away March 7, 2020. A celebration of life and sharing stories will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 3:00PM at Companion Funeral Home located at 2415 Georgetown Rd. NW, Cleveland, TN 37311. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 3:00PM. Burial will follow at Center Point Baptist Church Cemetery in Charleston TN.
Jake was a Barber in his earlier years. In the 70s he formed Godfrey Land Development.
He traveled the countryside teaching and sharing the Word of God.
Jake was an accomplished writer and philosopher.
Jake was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Marie Godfrey, son Bobby Joe Godfrey, son in law Joseph Paul Runion and granddaughter Kimberly Dawn Runion. Also Betty Freeman, a close personal friend he got to know and appreciate on his breaks from gardening beside her home. Lastly a special friend and wonderful caregiver, Joyce Ann King. Words cannot express the blessing she has been. She was a GODSEND.
He is survived by daughters; Shelia Francine Runion, Christine Godfrey, Carolyn Kazy all of Cleveland, Tennessee, Marsha (Ted) Everett of Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Mary Payne of Charleston, Tennessee. Sons; Jerry Godfrey of Lake Whitney, Texas, Larry Godfrey and Paul Godfrey both of Charleston, Tennessee. Eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Sisters; Johnnie Ruth Holmes and Bobbie June Gupton both of Dalton, Georgia.
Pallbearers are Josh Everett, Justin Everett, Ben Kazy, Cody Godfrey, Zack Payne, Jeremiah Payne and Tucker Godfrey. Honorary Pallbearer will be Brian Runion.
