Isaac William Bird Jr.

August 14, 1947 — March 30, 2023

Isaac William Bird Jr., affectionately known as Isaac, passed away on March 30, 2023, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Born in Cedartown, Georgia, on August 14, 1947, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Isaac is survived by his wife, Shelia Bird; children, Amber Bird and Aaron (Jamie) Bird; grandchildren, Jaxon Bird, Mason Bird, and Aiden Mathews; brother, Charles Bird; nephews, Acie A. (Billie) Bryan III, Danny Bollinger, and Zach Bollinger; niece, Angie Bollinger; brother-in-laws, Donnie (Karyn) Bollinger and Ronnie (Kim) Bollinger; sister-in-law, Sherry (Larry) Baker; and many other dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac William Bird Sr. and Rosa Juanita Bird, sister Ella Callie Bird, and brother Jake Bird.


Isaac was a proud and dedicated alumnus of Lee University, where he received his BA in Bible and Pastoral studies in 1986. He went on to serve the university in various roles, including 15 years as the manager of the campus print shop and 10 years as a campus safety officer and shuttle bus driver. Isaac's commitment to his faith was evident in his service as an ordained minister with the Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee. During his time in the United States Marine Corps, he earned the Marksman shooting badge M-14 Rifle, a testament to his sharp focus and determination.


A man of many interests and talents, Isaac enjoyed writing, woodworking, crafting, and restoring old furniture. His passion for these creative pursuits was matched only by his love for bible studies, family gatherings, and Sunday School. He forged many endearing friendships throughout his life, and his faith in God was a constant source of strength and inspiration for all who knew him.


Isaac was best described as intelligent, faith-filled, and generous. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to his family and faith will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.


A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Church at Grace Point, 2575 Old Freewill Rd. Cleveland, Tennessee.


Isaac will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date.


In lieu of flowers, a memorial basket will be available for cards and letters to the family.
