Icye Mae Rominger

Obituary

Icye Mae Bunch Rominger, age 86, a resident of Cleveland, went to her Heavenly home on December 29 in a local nursing home surrounded by her family. She no longer needs a wheelchair and is able to walk without pain in her eternal home.

Icye loved entertaining and was often called the “life of the party” but we say she brought the party with her wherever she went. She coordinated parties and often showed up as Dolly or her favorite was the “Heard it through the grapevine” routine. She had hundreds of costumes and loved sharing her talents to make others laugh. If there was a Rook party going on, she wanted to be there. She took ballroom dancing and taught exercise classes for many years. She was Mrs. Life Care of Cleveland and met many new friends there.

She was a long standing, active member of Clingan Ridge Baptist Church where she was a part of the quilting club and XYZ’s. Icye was a caregiver for all of her adult life caring for her mother and then her husband for many years. She was employed at several sewing factories and retired from Kellman’s. But she continued to be a caregiver until she turned 80 years old.

She was born on May 1, 1928 to the late Sam and Emma Bunch. She is proceeded in death by her loving husband of 69 years who proceeded her in death by 3 months, Rev. Ralph Rominger. Four brothers, Bill, John, Sam Jr., and Bobby Bunch. Also her sisters Gertie Farris, Ressie Farris, Marjorie (Fatty) Bunch and Betty Hardy Murphy.

Icye leaves behind to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-love, Robert and Bennie Sue Rominger and daughter Charlotte Rominger Walker Smith. Her pride and joys were her grandchildren, Judy (Paul) Pruett, Bruce (Joy) Rominger and Keisha Walker Graham and her great grandchildren, Taylor and Madison Pruett, Colby and Adasyn Graham. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Billy Rominger and a special niece Jimmy Lou Stinnett and friend Ruby Brown (her Rook partners) also, brother-in-laws Clyde and Calvin Rominger.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 1 from 3 to 7 PM @ Clingan Ridge Baptist Church in Cleveland. Special friends, Robbie & Shelli Cody, owners of Companion Funeral Home & Cremation Service has charge of the arrangements.

A celebration of Icye’s homecoming will be conducted on January 1 @ 7 PM officiated by Reverend Steve Morgan, Pastor Gary Moats and Billy Rominger. Special music will be The Neeley family, Wanda Price and Tye Crumley.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Rominger, Paul Pruett, Gary Rominger, Tony Hobbs, Keith Rominger and Dewayne Rominger. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Stinnett, Steve Ellis, Jim Finnell, Alan Rominger and Ray Conner.

Interment will held on Saturday, January 3 @ 11 AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, a contribution can be made to the Clingan Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund.

You are invited to share a story, memory or your personal condolences with Icye’s family by visiting her memorial web page and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com.
