Herman Scott

July 1, 1936 — December 6, 2022

Herman Scott, age 86, born in Baxley, GA, on July 1, 1936, was the son of the late Alex and Myrtle Lee Wigley Scott. He passed away peacefully in his Cleveland, TN, home surrounded by his family and his daughters singing “You Are my Sunshine” on December 6, 2022. Herman was the oldest of twelve children and grew up working on the farm and helping his dad harvest turpentine. As an adult, he worked as an electrical lineman in Georgia and Tennessee for thirty years with an incredible work ethic. He loved the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. Herman was a brother, father, Poppy, great-grandfather, and friend and told his family frequently “I love all y’all.” His love for Christ was evident, and he shared freely how Christ had saved him.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Louise Crosby and Earline Lee, his brother Joe Scott, and his great-grandson Zavian Burke.

He is survived by his former wife, Josephine Britt Scott, his three daughters Angela Hayes (Michael), Charlene Sellers (Cleon), and Heather Langford (Quantal). He is also survived by his grandchildren Tremayne Scott, Ish Sanders (Chantè), Jaren Sellers, Nicole Hayes, Jordan Sellers, Aaron Hayes, and Xander Sellers as well as great-grandchildren Naryiah Scott, Amari Martin, Ja’Kharee Scott, and Uriah Scott. He is survived by his sisters Velma Tyre, Irma Lee Wynn (Jimmy), Lawanda Johnson (Donald), Edna Dyal (Larry), and Glenda Hennessy; brothers Benny Scott (Phyllis) and Daniel Scott (Patricia); and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on December 22, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at South Cleveland Church of God, 1846 Volunteer Dr. SW, Cleveland, TN 37311.
