Harvey Louis Mitchell

Harvey Louis Mitchell, 76, of Cleveland, TN went home to be with the Lord on March 21, 2018. He was born on September 24, 1941 to the late Guy Mitchell and Florence Holley Mitchell. Harvey was a member of Cornerstone Church of God and loved his Cornerstone family. Those who knew Harvey knew that he loved the Lord with all his heart. He became a Christian at the age of 17 and was called to preach when he was 18 years old. He pastored 7 churches in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Alabama over 46 total years in ministry. He was a mentor to hundreds of young ministers and many souls were saved and lives were transformed by the word of God. He was an intercessory prayer warrior and would always pray for any request given to him. There were many testimonies of answered prayers. Harvey loved spending time with his family and he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to Southern Gospel Music, and his favorite dog, Rocket. One of Harvey’s most proud accomplishments was when he was ordained Bishop in 1972. Throughout his life, Harvey was a true example of one with unconditional love. He cared for everyone he came in contact with and you were always sure to be granted with good advice, sound wisdom, and an infectious smile. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by one brother Joseph Mitchell and sister Gertha Davis.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Katie Mitchell; son Travis Mitchell; daughter Lori Sentell (Rick); sister Dorothy Mae Humphries; grandchildren: Joseph Sentell (Ainsley Crowley), Sarah Emily Sentell, Katriel Sentell, Lorin Sentell; nieces and nephews: Cynthia Basham, Lucille Humphries, Rick Humphries, Joe Dwayne Mitchell, and Larry Mitchell. In addition to these he leaves behind great and great great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3:00pm until 7:00pm on Sunday March 25, 2018 at Cleveland Cornerstone Church of God located at 2823 S Lee Highway. A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00pm following visitation at the church on Sunday with Bishop Jerry Burton and Bishop Rick Sentell officiating. Interment will be held at 1:00pm on Monday March 26, 2018 at Lee Cemetery.
