Gerald Dean Goins

June 26, 1938 — April 23, 2022

Gerald Dean Goins, age 83, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed from death to life on April 23, 2022, after a courageously fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis and Parkinson’s disease.
He was born on June 26, 1938 to Creed and Vinnie (Rayfield) Goins. He grew up in the East Cleveland Community where he met the love of his life (Margaret Louise Carver) in third grade, at the old East Cleveland School, and she later become his wife on September 19, 1957.
He built his own business in the early 1960’s, Gerald Goins Motor Sales, where he did auto body repair and sold autos until his retirement. He was honest in his business dealings, and a firm believer in quality work and a hard-day’s labor. He had a great sense of humor and derived such pleasure out of making a person laugh. He was a man of many jokes and always had one ready to share with anyone who would lend an ear. He had an unmatched love for his personal Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and served him faithfully. He was a life-long member of East Cleveland Baptist Church, where he fulfilled many roles, including the office of a deacon and engineering the sound system which was his passion. He had an unmatched love of music of all types, but especially southern gospel. He was a part of many southern gospel groups and traveled across the state singing and sharing the gospel through song. After the birth of his children, he began to foster a love for music and song in them and would later form a gospel group known as The Goins Family.
He had a deep love and heartfelt compassion for others, especially his family, and his greatest joy was when they were all gathered near. In addition to his parents, Creed and Vinnie Goins, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gene, J.C. and Homer Goins, and one sister, Faye Goins May, and his oldest son, Jeffrey Dean Goins. He is survived by his loving wife and faithful companion of 64 years, Margaret Louise Carver Goins, daughter Debbie Goins Walker, Rodney (Tina) Goins, Kim (Brian) Nolen; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Clay, Nolen (Ashley) Goins and Trent Goins, Chrystal (Judson) Bates, Peyton (Hunter) Greene and Madison Nolen; five great grandchildren Jayden, Anna, Allison and Graysen Bates, and Reese Goins. Many beloved nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Special end of life servants and caregivers Valerie, Jacquelyn, Lorrie and Hospice of Chattanooga.
Services will be at 2pm on Saturday April 30th at East Cleveland Baptist Church with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Gerald’s family will receive friends from 5pm to 8pm on Friday, April 29th at East Cleveland Baptist Church.
