George Martin

December 24, 1929 — March 21, 2021

George E. Martin, age 91, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021. He was a longtime resident of Cleveland and a member and Deacon of Lebanon Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late Earnest F. and Grace Frazier Martin. He is also preceded in death by his grandson, Trevor Vic Martin Jones and sister, Mildred Blalock.
George is survived in death by his wife, Betty Jean Moore Martin; daughter, Debbie Martin Jones; grandson and the love of his life, Jorge Victor Trent Jones; brother, Ronnie Martin; and sister-in-law, Geneva Broomfield.
He attended Allen and Bradley High School. He served four years as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of AARP, American Legion, and longtime member of the Cleveland Lions Club having served every in every office of the local club. In 2001 George was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship, the highest honor given by Lions International.
He held a first-class radio and telephone license and was employed by WBAC as an engineer. He was an officer and cashier of Merchants for over 15 years, and he was an account executive with J.C. Bradford & Company until his retirement in 1990.
George was an avid coin collector and NASCAR fan—always rooting for his favorite driver, the late Dale Earnhardt, Senior.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Thursday, March 25, at 1pm. Officiating the service will be Minister Eric Bender, Representatives from the Cleveland Lions Club and the Rev. Adam Hardin will close in prayer. A dove release will conclude the service.
Pallbearers for the service will include Donnie Wilson, Bill Watson, Jason Osborne, Kent Broomfield, Corey Lovelace, and Aaron Kinser. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Cleveland Lions Club.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
