Garry Michael Hicks

June 14, 1956 — November 9, 2019

Garry Michael Hicks, 63, resident of Charleston passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, November 9, 2019. He was born June 14, 1956 to the late Bennie Franklin Hicks and Frances June Caldwell Hicks. Garry was born and raised here in Cleveland. He started his career with the Bradley County Sherriff’s Department and he retired from the City of Cleveland Police Department as the Assistant Chief of Police. During his career with the CPD he also served as interim chief. Garry attended and was saved at Beech Springs Baptist Church. He loved the mountains and enjoyed coon hunting, drag racing, and classic cars.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bennie and June Hicks. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son Marshall Hicks (Angela); daughters Emily Hicks Collins (Casey) and Dee Rouse (Joseph); siblings: Debbie Holcomb (Don) and Dennis Hicks (Sandra); grandchildren: Savannah Hicks, Emmalynn Hicks, Hazel Collins, Briggs Collins, Megan Rouse, and Morgan Rouse; longtime friend Eddie Cooper and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday November 15, 2019 at Samples Memorial Baptist Church. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday November 16, 2019 at Samples. Interment will follow the service at Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Eddie Cooper, Brian Smith, Jim Richardson, Casey Collins, Kevin Moses, and Joseph Rouse will serve as pallbearers. Dennis Hicks, Kevin Felton, and Anthony Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers.
