Emitt Leon Daniel

June 5, 1943 — September 8, 2022

Emitt Leon Daniel born June 5, 1943, passed away surrounded by family on September 8, 2022. He passed as he had lived, worshiping and singing and praising the Lord Jesus.

Beloved husband to Janet Long Daniel for almost 52 years. Father to Suzanne Daniel Burns (Timothy) and Jeffrey Daniel. Grandfather to Carly Cain ( Alex), Kaden Hernandez (Alexandria), and Ethan Burns, and his sweet girlfriend Stevi Barnes. Great grandfather to Gabriel Hernandez and Jonah and Elijah Cain.

He was a gifted teacher, whether in high school and college math and computer classes, or in Sunday school, or leading by example and by wisdom in universities around the country. He lead with wisdom and with love, always aware that Jesus is the source of all.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, of a dry wit and a ready smile. He walked in grace and generosity and all who knew him loved him.

Most especially, he taught his children and those who would listen what it means to be a good father and he modeled God the father so perfectly. He was gentle and kind. But he was also firm and loving. His strong West Texas personality filtered through into a brave, strong, wise man, full of wit and patience. He leaves behind also his beloved sister Polly Daniel, her son Michael, and his wife and sons. As well his nephews Brad and David Daniel. And a host of cousins, aunts, and uncles.

He is preceded in death by his father Emitt Daniel, his mother Mary Lou Pyeatt Daniel, his brother Jim, Jim’s son, James, and sister Arlene Hines. As well as a host of beloved family members, friends and colleagues.

His passing Was rapid. Following his cancer diagnosis in August, less than two weeks later he was gone. The family both grieves and celebrates. He is not in pain, he is rejoicing. His favorite song was a sweet old hymn, rarely remembered.

Jesus is the Joy of Living

Jesus is the joy of living

He’s the King of life to me

Unto Him my all I’m giving,

His forever more I’ll be.

I will do what He commands me

Anywhere He leads I'll go.

Jesus is the joy of living

He’s the dearest friend I know.

He leaves behind a vast hole in our family which can only be filled with the love and comfort of the Holy Spirit.
