Elizabeth "Betty" Chamberlain Kuhn

September 10, 1926 — February 28, 2020

Elizabeth “Betty” Chamberlain Kuhn, 93, died peacefully in the comfort of her daughter’s Chattanooga home on February 28, 2020. Betty, a Chattanooga native, was born on September 10, 1926 to James Robert and Catherine Seiner Chamberlain. She is preceded in death by her husband William Robert “Bob” Kuhn her sons Danny Rawn, Michael “Duck” Rawn, and Arthur Rawn. Her sisters Caroline (Jack) Messick and JoAnne Johnson.

Betty is survived by her children: Libby (Chuck) Dietzen, Kathy (John) Lennon, Jimmy (Darlene) Rawn. Daughter-in-laws, Merri Andersen and Tracy Rawn. Brother James (Gerri) Chamberlain, Sisters Mary Breen and Kay Henson. Her 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews will also fondly remember her.

A single mother to six children, Betty certainly stayed busy with her young family at their home on 802 South Moore Road. She welcomed friends at all times, kept the house full of love and comfort for all, and orchestrated cherished Christmas celebrations and family Birthday parties which are fondly remembered by her children. Along with her busy home life, Betty never missed a swim meet, a ball game, or school event that one of her children participated in and she made sure that everyone got where they were supposed to be. She made time for community by volunteering at OLPH School, The Mental Health Association, Hospice, and serving as a Scout Leader. Betty was an avid participant in the political process; having first voted for Eisenhower in 1952 up to the recent 2018 election. Betty was a proud Democrat and we are sure she would encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote this election.

As her children left the nest, Betty became more active in her role as a realtor and developer in the Chattanooga area. She championed the concept of condominiums in the early 1970s and was the manager of the Lakeshore Condominium a successful housing option for those who loved the lake as much as she did. While there, she met the love of her life: Bob. The two promptly married and enjoyed 34 years of boating, traveling, walking, biking, playing tennis, and spending time with family.

Betty will be remembered for her resiliency and strength, her love of family, and the abounding faith she kept until her final day.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Alexian Live At Home for providing such good care for our mother particularly by Kelly Ratkowski and Tina Nolan who treated Betty with kindness, compassion, and friendship over the past two years.

Visitation is Monday, March 2nd from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm at St. Jude Catholic Church located at 930 Ashland Terrace followed by Mass, which will be celebrated by Fr. Charlie Burton and Fr. Mike Nolan.
