Eldora Grace Hatcher

August 10, 1925 — February 9, 2023

Eldora Grace Hatcher of Grandview, TN passed away at the Life Care Center in Dayton, TN, on February 9, 2023, after a brief illness. She was 97. She was born to George and Lillian (Bessey) Lemon on August 10, 1925 in “Lemon Valley” (informally named after all the Lemons that lived there), a rural part of Monroe County, Wisconsin. She lost her mother in 1937 and her father in 1940.


She married Richard Fisher on June 9, 1942. They had 7 children: Teo, Beverly, Deryl, Earl, Elizabeth, Alvin and Marie. Teo had three sons: Douglas “Ric”, Dwight “Ron” and Gayne. Bev Schmidt had three sons: Clinton, Byron and Vance. Deryl had Valerie and David. Earl had Teresa, Earl III and Brenda. Elizabeth had Charles. After Richard divorced her in 1969, she married Cecil Meek and later, David Hatcher.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Richard, Cecil and David and children Teo, Bev and Deryl.

She is survived by children Earl of Grandview, TN, Beth of Maine,Alvin of Grandview, TN and Marie of Grandview, TN; grandchildren Douglas and Dwight of Michigan, Gayne of Florida, Clint of Oklahoma, Byron of Mississippi, Vance of Colorado, Valerie Brauer of Cleveland, TN, David of Washington State, Teri Crowe of Soddy-Daisy, Earl III “Bud” of Flintstone, Georgia, Brenda Burns of Rising Fawn, Georgia and Charles Spear of Maine; numerous great-children and even great-great-grandchildren.


She lived on Dayton Mountain for a number of years and so had friends in southern, as well as northern Rhea County. She was of the Seventh-day Adventist faith and used to make clothes to send to children in the jungle of Nicaragua.

Her memorial service is scheduled for March 25, 2023 at the Spring City Seventh-day Adventist Church.


She grew many types of flowers. Outside there were lilies, roses, trumpet vines, and primroses. Inside were African violets, Christmas cactus and orchids. She grew gardens, picked blueberries and canned produce. For a while, she ran a small home-based nursing home. But mainly she invested herself into her children and grandchildren.
