Edward Olin Mccartney

Edward Olin McCartney, 83, met his heavenly reward on November 16, 2021, after a long battle with lymphoma in Cleveland, TN.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy L. McCartney of Cleveland, TN, his four children: Erin (Stephen) Hattabaugh of Cleveland, TN, Sue (Leif) Olson of Oregon, WI, Kristen (Bill) McCartney-Bulmer of Tudhoe, England and Patrick (Lais) McCartney of Knightstown, IN; his nine grandchildren: Adam (Courtney) Hattabaugh of Cleveland, TN, Matthew Hattabaugh of Nashville, TN, Rachel McCartney of Dublin, OH, Rebekah, Grace and Luke McCartney of Knightstown, IN, Sophie (Cameron) McCartney-Bulmer of Manchester, England, Anna (Jaken) Bruckbauer of Milwaukee, WI, Irene McCartney of Oregon, WI and “Molly” his faithful Maltese who continually remained by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents Genevie and Edgar McCartney, sisters Judy Austin and Sally Steinbach.

He was born on February 3, 1938, in Muskegon, Michigan. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Drake University with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration. He enjoyed a long successful career acquiring several patents in manufacturing with Maytag, Jenn-Air, and Magic Chef/Whirlpool retiring in 1999 as Vice President of Research and Development after 39 years of service.

He was active in several philanthropic organizations throughout the community: Broad Street United Methodist Church; Kiwanis, receiving Kiwanian of the year five times; United Way receiving the Ionic Award three times and the Doric Award fifteen times; Habitat for Humanity as Board of Directors, State Impact, Silent Auction, and Founding Fathers awards; Active member of Cleveland High School Engineering Business and Advisory Committee.

He enjoyed time spent with his family, golfing and traveling. His family and friends will always remember him as a man who believed in education, doing the best at what you do with passion and always establishing goals while working to achieve them despite the obstacles along the way. His legacy will live on as his life is woven throughout the hearts of many and will be an inspiration to all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life Service will be December 11, 2021, at 3pm, with visitation from 1pm-3pm at Broad Street United Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wesley Sunday School Class.
