Edmund Lee Baugh, Jr.

August 4, 1945 — June 21, 2021

Edmund Lee “Eddie” Baugh, Jr., 75, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away June 21, 2021. He was of the Methodist faith. As a child, he grew up in a house on the corner of 8th Street NW and Milne Avenue next to Arnold School and lived there most of his life. He was the fourth generation to live within 100 yards of Arnold School. He graduated from Bradley High School in 1963.
Eddie’s great great grandfather was Joseph R. Taylor, a well-known contractor who spent his life in the house that was located on the site where Arnold was built. His Great Grandfather was Dr. William Herman Schultz who sold what was at the time the family homeplace on the land where Arnold School now stands to the city school system so that the school could be built in 1925. Eddie’s grandparents were Jack Daniel “JD” Slaughter and Marie Schultz Slaughter who lived at the 8th Street residence.
Eddie liked riding motorcycles. His first was a Harley Hummer purchased at Griffith Cycle and given to him at Christmas 1956 by his grandfather JD. He also had a go-cart and unicycle.
Eddie always loved animals and as a child, he had a Palomino horse named “Buddy” in his backyard that lived to be 30 years old. He also had many other dogs and horses.
Perhaps most notably, Eddie was the owner of the famous Bock Bock – an Easter chick given to him on Easter in 1956. Bock Bock grew to be a large rooster and was feared for terrorizing children in the area, which made Eddie very well-known by the Arnold students.
Eddie graduated from the University of Mississippi law school and practiced law in Cleveland at his downtown law office on First Street his entire life until he retired. He was a lifelong bachelor who never married but represented many of his friends and schoolmates in his law practice.
Preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Josephine (Betty Jo) Baugh and Edmund Lee Baugh, Sr.
Survived by his sister, Susan Baugh McClary; brothers, John (Cheryl) Baugh and Michael (Cindy) Baugh; nephews, Jacob L. McClary, IV, Jonathan Baugh, and Jamie Baugh; many cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, and the family would like for you to leave a comment on the webpage of www.companionfunerals.com.
