Obituary

Dr. Wilbur Sherman Higgs, 93, a resident of Cleveland, TN passed away on Sunday, February 8th, 2015 at his home. He was born on March 13th, 1921 in Lyons, GA and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Madisonville, TN.

Affectionately known as “Doc”, he was a son of the late Della Irene Harden & William Hockman Higgs. A father, grandfather & friend to many, he was also preceded in death by a granddaughter. Leigh Ann Higgs, grandson, Victor Lee Higgs, Jr., seven brothers Severa Nathaniel Higgs, William Laney Higgs, Isaiah Mike Higgs, Alex Otto Higgs, Jack Johnson Higgs, Vernon Odell Higgs, and William Thomas Higgs, one sister Nancy Elizabeth Thompson, his first wife and mother of his children, Dean Zorn Higgs and also his second wife of thirty six years Mary Alice Higgs.

A University of Georgia alumnus, Dr. Higgs, was a retired large & small animal veterinarian practicing for over fifty years. He was also an avid supporter of the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

He is survived by his children & their spouses, Dr. Ronald Dale & Pamela Higgs of Rockwood, Olis Jr. & Jinna Kaye Tucker of Cleveland, Victor Lee Higgs Sr., of Cleveland, step son, Joe & Peggy Pesterfield, John & the late Gail Pesterfield. Grandchildren, Stuart Lee Higgs, Heather Ann Higgs, Clark Hollin Tucker, & Jinna Anne Tucker Clifford & husband Aidan Perriard Clifford, three great grandchildren, one sister Billie Irene Jones, numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be in Doc’s memory to the Mission Fund at First Baptist Church of Cleveland, TN

A memorial service celebrating his life is planned for Wednesday, February 11th, 2015 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church Cleveland located at 1275 Stuart Road NE in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Tom Wickes officiating. Music will be provided by Mary Beth Wickes and David Goodwill.
