Douglas Thomas Allmaras

Douglas Thomas Allmaras of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, beloved husband to Jeanne and loving father to

Laurie and Jody, passed away Friday February 10, 2023, at the age of 75. Prior to his passing, he spent a

short amount of time on hospice, being cared for at his home, surrounded by his wife of 24 years,

Jeanne, daughters Laurie and Jody, and the wonderful caregivers of Hearth Hospice.

“Dougie” was born to Maxine Irene and Lloyd Frank Allmaras on March 13, 1947, in New Rockford,

North Dakota. He was raised there with his 4 siblings, Kenneth, Arlene, Patricia, and Marilyn. It was

during his childhood and adolescent years that he developed a strong work ethic, while also living his life

to the fullest; Doug knew how to have a good time and made friends easily with his cheerful personality.

As a young man, he did a few different jobs including road construction; and as he got older, he worked

hard as a farmer while raising his family, Laurie Beth, Diana Lynn, and James Douglas.

Doug later relocated to Gillette, Wyoming, to work in the coal mine. That is where he met the love of

his life, Jeanne, whom he married in 1999. After retiring from the mine, he and Jeanne returned to New

Rockford, ND, so they could care for his mother; they also opened a green house and enjoyed working

alongside one another. Doug was immensely passionate about his yard; those who knew him would

agree that he spent many hours perfecting his trees, grass, plants, shrubs, and surrounding areas. In

addition, he relished in assuring his vehicles were in tip top shape. Doug enjoyed spending time with his

daughter, Laurie, and stepdaughter Jody, and loved pampering his dogs throughout the years, most

recently Ashley and Shelby, and they adored him back. Doug and Jeanne moved to Rockport, Texas, in

2017 to get away from the cold ND winters. That proved to be a challenge, due to the hurricanes, and

they survived Hurricane Harvey that same year. He took it in stride as usual, and completely repaired

his yard; within months, it looked even better that it did before the storm. In 2021, Doug and Jeanne

moved to Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, where they enjoyed living the small-town lifestyle in the mountains.

Doug always took great pride in caring for his wife, Jeanne, and when she had some health struggles, he

ensured she made it to all her medical appointments with loving care. Throughout their lives together,

Doug and Jeanne enjoyed traveling to a variety of places, including Montana, Colorado, Minnesota,

Arizona, North Carolina, Nevada, Jamacia, and Mexico.

Doug was proceeded in death by his parents Maxine and Lloyd Allmaras; his siblings Kenneth, Arlene,

Patricia, and Marilyn; his father-in-law George Jones; his grandparents Catherine A. Dablow, Frank B.

Allmaras, Irene B. Barrett, and Charles M. Allmaras, among many other relatives and friends.

Doug will be sorely missed and is survived by his wife Jeanne Allmaras (Soddy Daisy, TN), daughter

Laurie Allmaras (Savannah, GA), stepdaughter Jody Otte (Loveland, CO), Aunt Lois Alrick (Shelby, MT),

his miniature schnauzer Shelby, and a host of close friends.

Doug was an organ donor and cremation has taken place; a Celebration of Life will be held by immediate

family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that you donate to Hearth Hospice in

Chattanooga, TN, Lake Region State College in Devil’s Lake, ND, or another charity of your choice.
