Doris R. Hughes

On Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 3:00 a.m., Doris Ann Hughes, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away in Marietta, Georgia at the age of 80.
Doris was born on April 17, 1941, in Henagar, Alabama to Clell Reed (Red) and Gladys Irene Rowell.
Doris attended Pisgah High School in Pisgah, Alabama where she met the love of her life, Boyd Lee Hughes, and they married June 13, 1959. They moved to Chattanooga where she went to Beauty School to become a cosmetologist. She was a lifelong hairdresser in Cleveland for over 36 years, when she retired from Foundation Styling Salon. After retirement, she began painting and loved sharing her works with her family. She was always thinking of others and until she became physically unable, shared her love of others by preparing meals and extending visits to those in need.
Doris was a devoted Christian and prayer warrior and loved gospel music and the promises in Christ it proclaims. She and Boyd joined Westwood Baptist Church after moving to Cleveland in 1969 where they were faithful members for over 50 years until moving to Marietta, Georgia in 2020 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Their beloved Sunday School class taught by Lewis Kearney and Wayne Finnell has been faithful to love and support them over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Red and Gladys Rowell, and infant sister, Wilma Katherine Rowell.
She is survived by her daughters, Annette Sheehan and son-in-law Eric Sheehan; Laura Ervin and son-in-law Gregg Ervin; and two grandchildren, Bo Sheehan and Jordan Sheehan.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at Westwood Baptist Church, Thursday evening April 7 at 6:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Pastor Steven Smartt.
The graveside service will be held Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial and officiated by Pastor Nolan Phillips.
Visitation will be prior to the service, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church.
