Donald Gray McCoy, 82, went home on April 23, 2021. A devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend, Don showed kindness to everyone he met. He was a 60-year member of the IBEW Local 175 and taught apprentice lineman at SELCAT for many years. Even in the late stages of his condition, he was always concerned that someone might need his help. Our world is better because he was in it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Goldie McCoy; brothers, Walter McCoy and DeForrest McCoy; sister, June Richardson; granddaughter, Gracie McCoy; and Old Jack.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda Faye McCoy; sons, Donald McCoy (Lisa), Mark McCoy (Yvonne), and David McCoy (Deanna); daughter Tammy Adams (J.D.). He will also be remembered by his grandchildren: Chet Guthrie, Beth Secress, Logan McCoy, Allie McCoy, Marissa McCoy, Lily Guthrie, Maci McCoy, Markie McCoy, Miyah Kelsey, and ZaVeah Kelsey. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers Harrell McCoy (Shirley), Larry McCoy (Mary Nell), and Herbert McCoy (Earl Jean), sister in law Mary Lou McCoy, as well as his niece Lisa Swilling in Tennessee and nieces and nephews in North Carolina.
A celebration of Donald’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday April 27, 2021 at Companion Funeral Home Cleveland Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until the service at 2:00pm. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens following the service.
