Dianne Howard Thompson

May 16, 1941 — February 4, 2021

Dianne Howard Thompson, 79, of Cleveland, passed away Feb. 4, 2021 at home surrounded by those who loved her most. Dianne was born in Griffin, GA to the late Lamar Howard and Ruth Duncan Howard. Dianne was the second of three children. In her early years, she served the First Assembly of God Church in Barnesville, GA in almost every capacity possible, including pianist, Sunday School teacher, secretary, treasurer, etc. She always loved serving her Lord in any capacity she was needed.

Dianne continued that philosophy of serving when they moved to Snellville, GA. She attended and served at the Lawrenceville Church of God for more than 25 years.

Later in life, Dianne made the decision to go back to school to obtain a Nursing degree. She spent the majority of her nursing career working with cardiology patients at Emory University Hospital. Although she worked with many well-known personalities, she gave the same level of passion and care to all that she served. Dianne loved caring for others and it showed through her compassion and outstanding standard of care. Upon retirement from Emory, Dianne and her husband, Jimmy, moved to Cleveland, TN to be near her children and grandchildren.

After arriving in Cleveland, Dianne went back to work at CHI Memorial. Upon retiring a second time, she stayed involved in her church, North Cleveland Church of God, when she was not traveling across the country with her husband in an RV.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Weekley, and nieces, Alisha Edwards and Teresa Carlisle.

Dianne is survived by her faithful, loving husband of 60 years, Jimmy Otis Thompson of Cleveland; two children, Angela Thompson Conine and husband, Chris, and Gregory Lamar Thompson and wife, Kelly, all of Cleveland; brother, LTC (retired) Michael Howard (Jane) of Barnesville, GA; nine grandchildren, Connor, Mason and Logan Conine, and Analyn, Cole, Emma, Benjamin, Ruby and Ruger Thompson, all of Cleveland; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Lee University Chapel in Cleveland, with Rev. Larry Timmerman and Rev. Cy Harris officiating. Visitation will occur immediately before the service, starting at 10:00 am in the Lee University Chapel. A private graveside service will be held later at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
