David Alan Young

May 22, 1961 — February 23, 2019

David Alan Young, 57, went to his Heavenly home on February 23, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at Erlanger Medical Center after a battle with cancer. He was born on May 22, 1961 in McMinn County. He was the son of Patricia & Glenn Horton and Avery & Phyllis Young. He attended McMinn County and Athens City Schools. He graduated high school in 1979 and attended Cleveland State Community College and the Universaity of Tennessee. David married Linda Cox Young on June 2, 2008 at Friends Chapel in Tellico Plains. He worked for Blaine Construction and also owned his own dock building company Lakeside Service. David is of the Christian Faith. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife Linda and especially enjoyed teaching his grandson Brantley and his nephews to fish. David collected Native American artifacts and had an extensive collection. He was of Cherokee decent and honored his heritage with his long hair. David enjoyed being in the mountains on the the lake. He was an original and lived life on his own terms. David loved to talk and his ability to tell tall tales entertained everyone who was lucky enough to hear them .
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Ray & Lydia Ferguson and Earl & May Young and daughter Haley Marie Seeber
David is survived by wife Linda Cox Young of Kingston, TN, parents Patricia & Glenn Horton of Athens, TN and Avery & Phyllis Young of Maryville, TN, son Travis Johnson (Karen) of Decatur, TN, grandchildren Callie & Bella Johnson and Caitlyn & Ethan Hill all of Decatur, TN, sisters Glennanne Boegly (Tom) of Knoxville, TN, Julie Tomlin (Zack) of Athens, TN, Marie Horton Larson of Chattanooga, TN, daughter Kasie Seeder, cherished special grandson Brantley of Kingston, TN, nephews Wes Snyder, Tristen Leamon & Julian Leamon all of Athens, TN, Will Boegly & Ethan Boegly both of Knoxville, TN, aunts Jean Qualls (Joe) of Knoxville, Sheila Stewart (John) of the Blue Springs Community, Inez Tallent of Madisonville and Jeana Merle Burris of Knoxville, TN, cousins Alison Qualls, Adam Gravley (Heather) of Murfeesboro, Matthew Gravley (Angela) of Etowah and Patrick Underwood of the Blue Springs Community.
A celebration of his life is planned for Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 7:00 PM in the Athens chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 400 S White Street in Athens, TN with his best friend the Reverend Scott Duncan, Reverend John Stewart, and the Reverend Marvin West officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until the 7:00 PM service time.
The interment and committal service is planned Friday, March 1, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Travis Johnson, Wes Snyder, Tristen Leamon, Julian Leamon, Will Boegly & Ethan Boegly serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Childrens research hospital.
