Clarence "Danny" Daniel Swafford

December 11, 1949 — October 3, 2020

Clarence “Danny” Daniel Swafford, 70, of Old Fort, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 3, 2020 after a lengthy Hospice care.

He was born on December 11, 1949 to the late Clarence E. and Geraldine Dixon Swafford of Benton. Danny was a 1967 graduate of Polk County High School and attend Crowley’s Ridge College in Paragould, Arkansas. He also was a graduate of the Medical Self Help Training Course from the Office of Civil Defense in 1968 and from the Shelter Management Instructor Course from The University of Tennessee in 1968.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Harrison and Grace Swafford and Wallace and Mattie Dixon; and brothers, David S. Swafford and Larry Swafford.

Danny leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Deborah Curtis Swafford of 48 years; his children April Matthews of Cleveland, and Jeff Swafford of Desloge, MO; grandchildren, Aaron Matthews, Alan Matthews, Austin Matthews all of Cleveland, and Jadeyn Swafford of Desloge, MO; siblings, Tommy Swafford, Susan (Terry) Dilbeck, and Kim (Don) Hudgins all of Benton; sister-in-law Sheila (David) Swafford; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

He was a member of East Side Church of Christ. He had retired from Honeywell (Bendix) after 30 years. He helped coach his daughter’s softball team and was a former umpire and scorekeeper for the local ASA Softball Association. He was actively involved in the Bradley Central High School band boosters while his son was in high school. He was a very active member in the Bradley County 4-H Sheep Program where he received the William M. and Ruth Hale Award and the Outstanding Service Award. He also was a Past Master Mason with the Conasauga Masonic Lodge and a Past President with the Chattanooga York Rite College.

His wife and children would like to give special thanks to his wonderful caregivers Amanda and Anita, who became part of the family, and all of the great people at Hearth Hospice of Cleveland.

Masks will be required and we ask that you respect the families wishes in this.

His family will receive friends on Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 5 PM – 8 PM at East Side Church of Christ in Cleveland, TN. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 11 AM with the burial following at Antioch Church of Christ in Old Fort, TN with Jeff Archey and Bill Maynard officiating. Special music will be provided by East Side Church of Christ congregational singing. Pallbearers will be Edwin Curtis, DJ Grayless, Nathan Hudgins, Tyler VanPelt, Jared King, Nick Giordano, Edward Lively, and Jonathan Hudgins. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Dilbeck, Will Curtis, and Tony Carpenter.
