Charles Raulston Brown

March 23, 1935 — October 11, 2022

Charles Raulston Brown, age 87, of Maryville, Tenn., passed away gently at home on Monday, October 10, 2022. His faith was in the Lord.


Known by ‘L.V.,’ ‘Vee,’ & ‘Charlie’ throughout different times in his life, Charlie was born to Luther Van & Etta Mae (née, Newberry) Brown on March 23, 1935 in Vonore, Tenn. His father passed away when he was one month old; and later, his mother married Roy W. Wilson, who became his step-father.


Charlie was known for his basketball & baseball athleticism; he was a star athlete at Alnwick School & Friendsville Academy. He later coached at the Academy, Bungalow School & the old Boy’s Club on McGhee Street.


In his younger days, he was a local barber, working at Raby’s Barbershop, Service Barbershop & Brown’s Service Shop. He also owned the Sandwich Shop downtown. For many years he was the manager of Louisville Point Park for the Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Parks & Recreation Commission.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Charles Robin Brown.


Surviving him are his darling wife, Norma Jean Brown, who they were together for over 45-years; children, Craig, Chesney, Cydney, Gabe, Aaron, Shawn & Monte, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; brother, Richard W. Wilson, and extended family.


A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
