Charles Brooks Warner Jr.

Charles Brooks Warner Jr, 93, of Ooltewah TN, formerly of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away peacefully, on February 05, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Charles is survived by his two sons; David R. Warner (Wendy) of Pelham AL, Jeffrey C. Warner (Rebekah) of Ooltewah TN; and two loving grandchildren, Nicholas Warner (Eli), Benjamin Warner (Frances), Four great grandchildren, Holden Warner, Sadie Warner, Oscar Warner and Rosie Warner; his sister Margaret Simon of Los Alto Hills, CA, and half-brother John (Bonnie) Warner of Bellbrook, OH, and his former spouse Dorothy Warner of Hoover AL, along with several nieces and nephews which he loved dearly. Charles was a loving father, grandfather and friend to everyone.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Warner, his younger sister Ida Jane West; and brothers-in-laws Gary Simon and Theron West.

He was born May 15, 1929, in Roanoke, West Virginia to Charles B. Warner and Clara May Warner (nee Cunningham). He was the oldest of three children.

After growing up, with his two sisters, in West Virginia, he moved to Dayton Ohio to finish High School. He graduated from Kiser High School in 1947 and then began a 46-year career with Dayton Power & Light Co. There he met and married Dorothy J. Warner (Huston) on August 19, 1950. Though the relationship wasn’t permanent, they did have 2 children together and remained friends afterward. After legally separating, Charles remarried the late Mary Ann Warner (Stueve) on June 30, 1979.

Charles loved sports, especially baseball. His favorite team was the Cincinnati Reds. He spent many evenings listening to, watching, or attending Reds games. He spent his free time working on home improvement projects, playing softball and coaching youth baseball for his sons. Later in life he enjoyed a hobby involving vintage cars. Charles became an expert at finding, restoring and selling Austin Healey sports cars. Charles restored over 18 Austin Healey sports cars, many achieving best in class or best of show awards. He was a founding member and past president of Miami Valley Chapter of the Austin Healey Club of America, where he enjoyed the club members’ fellowship as he helped others to restore and maintain vintage British sports cars. He was always there to help friends or relatives with household projects or automotive repairs and restorations.

At Charles’ request, internment will be held at a private graveside service, at the Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. In lieu of flower, Charles would be pleased that any donations be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.
