Bret Blackburn Noblitt, February 7, 1953 - August 18, 2018
If the measure of your life is the number of people you come into contact with - those that you
influence, guide, share knowledge and love, then Bret Noblitt had a life well-lived.
Drummer, live sound engineer, nuclear health physicist, martial artist, sound and video systems
engineer, business owner, fan of bad science fiction movies and avid reader of good science
fiction stories, father and husband.
For over 40 years he designed sound and video systems as part of the great renaissance of
Chattanooga - there is a good likelihood that each day, in the background, you are experiencing
his contribution. As a live audio engineer Bret provided concert sound and production for over
1000 national recording artists and events. If you’ve been to a concert in Southeast TN there is
a good chance that the sound was provided by Bret or by someone lucky enough to be
mentored by him.
And in the last ten years of his life, as the Technical Director of the Frierson Theatre at Girls
Preparatory School, one of his joys was providing guidance and leadership to a generation of
remarkable young women.
A life well lived.
Healthy and strong his entire life, the diagnosis in 2016 of pancreatic cancer was stunning. But
the drive to seek out knowledge and the best approach is strong in our family and so under the
tremendous skill of the doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD and TN Oncology,
Chattanooga, Bret was given the gift of living two more years.
Remembering him always will be his wife, Carol Noon, his son Trevor Noblitt, brother Cliff
Noblitt of Jasper and the countless friends, family and acquaintances whose life Bret touched.
There will be a celebration of a life well lived at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, at the Frierson
Theatre, Girls Preparatory School, 205 Island Avenue.
