Bill Scoggins

April 13, 1942 — August 1, 2020

William R. “Bill” Scoggins, 78, passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family and close friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Opal and W.O. Scoggins and his beloved grandson, Clint Scoggins, and infant great-granddaughter, Kendall Annsley Scoggins.

Bill is survived and cherished by his wife, Phyllis Gentry Scoggins, his son, Bradley Keith Scoggins, and one stepson, Stacy Poteet, both of Cleveland; his daughter, Belinda Tobin of Murfreesboro. Bill is also survived by two brothers, Don Scoggins and Steve Scoggins, and one sister, Judy (Joe) Mercer, all of Cleveland.

Bill had 7 grandchildren: Preston and Jordan Scoggins, Aiden, Autumn and Johnathon Poteet all of Cleveland; Tyler and Justin Tobin of Murfreesboro. Bill had one beloved great-grandson, Bowen Scoggins also of Cleveland. He had several nieces, nephews, many friends and loved ones he had enjoyed through the years.

Bill graduated from Bradley High School and maintained many friends through the years. His after school job was a delivery boy at Vaughn’s Food Store. He probably delivered groceries to many reading this tribute.

Bill was in the insurance business for over 51 years and was the Owner of Scoggins & Associates Insurance. He won many awards; one particular ranking was a life member of Million Dollar Roundtable which he was presented a new Porsche. He certainly enjoyed that banquet and afterward he put quite a few miles on his new wheels.

Bill loved to travel and had visited all 50 states and several other countries including Mexico, Puerto Rico and several other locations. He and Phyllis had a multitude of motor home friends that they enjoyed traveling with. They loved to be “on the road again.”

Bill was a longtime member of Mount Olive Ministries where he wants to attend one more time. He was a member of the Waymaker’s Sunday School Class. His farewell trip will be on Tuesday, August 4th, 2020 at 2:00PM at Mount Olive.

Pastors Gary and James Sears will give Bill his final sendoff.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not have a visitation. Everyone is invited to attend the service. The auditorium seating is placed socially distant for everyone’s safety. Masks will be required. IF you do not have one, it will be provided along with hand sanitizer.

Preston, Jordan, and Paxton Scoggins, Johnathon Poteet, Taylor and Trae Kiser, and Tyler Torbin will carry Bill to his final resting place. Aiden Poteet will service as Papaw’s honorary escort. They will place Bill beside his parents at the Lee Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made on behalf of Bill to the Mount Olive Building fund.

Arrangements are provided by Companion Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
