Betty was born January 28, 1925 in Franklin NC to Bertha and Will Shepherd. Betty attended High School in Mooresville NC where she was a cheerleader and basketball player. It was in Mooresville that she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Kendrick. They married after World War ll and eventually moved to Calhoun TN where Bill worked at Bowater.
Betty began her first 20 year career at the United States Post Office in Calhoun TN. She was later transferred to the Cleveland Keith Street Branch where she eventually became Supervisor of the Delivery Operations. Three years after retiring from the Post Office Betty began her second 20 year career working for Walmart as a cashier in the Pharmacy. She finally retired at the age of 86.
Betty and Bill were long-time faithful members of First Baptist Church in Calhoun and later in Cleveland. Their faith' was strong as was their love for one another. Her daughters have special memories watching their parents spontaneously dance around the kitchen floor and their generous displays of affection for one another. After Bill's passing, Betty's love for him remained strong and alive, often reminiscing about their time together.
Betty was an only child and frequently talked about how thankful she was to be surrounded by her family. Family events and celebrations were priority for Betty, living each moment to its fullest. Special memories shared by the family include Holiday meals gathered around the Kendrick family table, Betty's presence at the birth of each grandchild, a family trip to Disney World which included Betty (at 80) dancing with Pluto at Mickey's Midnight Birthday Celebration, dodging Christmas gifts during Lefty Righty, and celebrating her 90th with a line dance.
