Ben Buffington

Ben Buffington, 95, passed away at his home on Wednesday October 26th. He was originally from Flat Rock, AL, but had lived in Cleveland for the past 57 years. He worked for several years as a pipefitter and then a long distance truck driver, but finally returned to farming; raising beef cattle for 45 years.

He was a member of Waterville Baptist Church for over 14 years and previously a member of First Baptist Church. He loved being a doorman in the House of the Lord and greeting everyone, especially little children. He enjoyed reading through the Bible every year.

He was the middle child of 11 and was preceded in death by the other 10; Bill Buffington, Edwina Ireland, Milford Buffington, Herbert Buffington, Elizabeth Davis, Clifford Buffington, Edward Buffington, Clyde Buffington, Kermit Buffington, and Jacqueline Byers, as well as his parents Mike and Winnie Buffington and his youngest son Ben Buffington Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Judy Buffington; son Jerome Buffington of Fort Payne, AL; daughter Karen Cook (Wayne) of Jasper, FL; seven grandchildren: Laura Martin, Ben Buffington III, Brad Cook (Heather), Toni Sullivan (Richie), Kyle Cook (Lisa), Lee Buffington (Crystal), and Nathan Buffington (Stacy); eighteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and two sister in laws and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind a “chosen son” David Orr.

Ben’s family will receive friends from 11am-1pm on Saturday October 29th at Waterville Baptist Church with a funeral service to follow at 1pm. Rev. Tony McClanahan will be officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
