Anita Rose Mclain

Anita Rose McLain, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and treasured friend to many, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023, in Cleveland, TN. Born on February 16, 1952, in Chattanooga, TN, she lived a fulfilling life of 71 years filled with love, compassion, and a deep connection to her family and community.


Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Alice Harden, her grandson Jacob McLain, and her brothers Bobby Rice and Lake Harden. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 52 years, John "Tommy" McLain of Cleveland, TN, her loving son, Jason McLain (Michelle) of Cleveland, TN, her grandson, Hunter McLain (Ashley) of Cleveland, TN, her great-grandsons, John and Isaac McLain of Cleveland, TN, as well as her sisters, Janice Murray (Garry) of Cleveland, TN and Jane Carter of Riceville, TN. Also, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews.


Anita was a founding member of the family auxiliary fraternal order of the police. She found joy in a variety of activities, including horseback riding, an activity that brought her close to nature and provided lasting memories with her family. She had a fondness for cats and all animals in general.


Her faith was an essential part of her life, and Anita was an active volunteer at her church for many years, touching countless lives with her kindness, courage, and genuine spirit. In her roles as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she brought joy and laughter to many family gatherings, creating memories that will continue to be cherished among her loved ones.


Anita was the kind of person who never met anyone that did not like her, and made friends everywhere she went. Her warm, bright spirit drew people toward her, and she cultivated deep connections and lasting bonds with those she encountered on her journey through life.


A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 4:00 pm at Prospect United Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. Phil Sumrall to officiate. The family will be receiving friends from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Cleveland, Tennessee. Pallbearers include Dale Murray, Lynn Rice, Joe Little, Jeff Carter, Ritchie Holmes and Tyler Murray.
