Alvin Joe Suits

Alvin Joe Suits, 60, entered into paradise by invitation of Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 12. Above all else, Alvin loved to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all who would listen. He was a man filled with passion, love and tenderness for everyone he encountered. He was someone who understood the power of forgiveness and knew that redemption is a gift offered to all of us. He truly was a man dedicated to ministry and his family. If given the chance to write this obituary, the one thing he would want you to know is that Jesus loves you very much.
Alvin was born in and lived most of his life in Cleveland, Tennessee. He met his wife Connie at the Bachman Home pool when they both were 17 years old. The two of them would go on to be married for 42 years and raise five children. Alvin was a hardworking man known for his dedication and tireless effort to provide for his family. He was a skilled craftsman and a gifted landscaper. He taught his children three valuable lessons: love God, love your family, and work hard.
Alvin’s love for his wife must be noted. Through a variety of life events, Alvin was a loving husband who cared for his wife. Through trials, they grew closer together. In addition to his dedication to his wife, Alvin was a great father to his children. He coached all five of them in basketball at Black Fox Elementary school for many years. He would be at every important event, sacrifice much to ensure their needs were met, and continued to support them in any way he could when they grew into adulthood. He also loved his sisters, brother, cousins, and many other family members very deeply.
Alvin was a renaissance man and a life long learner. He enjoyed fishing, playing music, writing, preaching, and gardening. He was involved with many ministries and churches in the Cleveland area. He also traveled on mission trips around the United States in order to share the Gospel.
Alvin is survived by his wife Connie and their five children and spouses and grandchildren. His son Jarrod, his wife Sarah and their children Henry and Olivia. His son Joseph, his wife Brennan and their children Joseph Odell, Elias, Tinley, Zadie and Oaklyn. His son John, his wife Allison and their children June and Samuel. His daughter Mary. And his son James and his wife Danielle. Also by his brother Perry, his wife Tonya, and his sisters Alicia Sutton, her husband Scott and Jeanna Walden, her husband Roger. Plus many wonderful cousins, nephews, nieces, uncles and aunts. Alvin is preceded in death by his father Alvin Odell and mother Mary Joyce, and two children Brent and Cherith.
A Memorial service will be held at Broad Street United Methodist Church on Saturday at 2pm. Visitation will precede the service from noon to 2pm.
