Alicia Dawn Kirkendall Black, 43, of Cleveland passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019 at her residence. She was born in St. Louis, MO and had been a resident of Cleveland for the past 20 years. Alicia was a 1993 graduate of Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO. She was a writer, speaker, author, songwriter, involved in Women’s Ministries and her church choir. Her heart was helping people. Alicia was an Administrative Assistant at Blythe-Bower Elementary School of Cleveland. She was a member of the South Cleveland Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Wanda Kirkendall; and her maternal grandparents, Revs. Hampton McKinley Walker and Lula Odell Walker.
Survivors include her husband of 16 years, Sam Black of Cleveland; her son, Clayton Walker Black of Cleveland; her parents, Rev. Jack and Miriam Kirkendall of Greeneville, TN; her paternal grandfather, Rev. Russel Kirkendall of Fostoria, OH; her brother, Timothy Paul Kirkendall (Lori) of Charleston, SC; and her nieces, Taylor Madison Hyman (Rhett) and Abigail McKinley Kirkendall, all of Charleston, SC.
The family will receive friends at South Cleveland Church of God on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 12pm to 1pm. A Celebrations of Life will follow at 1pm with Revs. Edwin Lipsey and Dawn Lipsey officiating.
