Alfred "Al" R Noel

Alfred “Al” R. Noel, 83, of Charleston went to be with our Lord Thursday, May 9, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. He was born in Bowling Green, Virginia and had been a resident of Charleston for the past 41 years coming from Virginia. He retired from Westvaco after 39 years of service. Al proudly served in the United States Army in the mid 1950’s. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and watching the Atlanta Braves. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Candies Creek Baptist Church.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pearl Noel; a brother, William Noel; and a sister, Dorothy Geremia.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Etta Mae Noel of Charleston; a son, Jimmy Noel (Angie) of Clayton, NC; two daughters, Donna Rowlenson (James) of Ringgold, GA and Rosemarie Stout (Richard) of Cleveland; two brothers, Harvey Noel (LaRue) of Ruther Glen, VA and Herbert Noel (Teresa) of Chester, VA; three sisters, Edith Hinson (Dave) Moneta, VA, Lillie Brinklow (Bobby) of Richmond, VA, and Rosa Lee Young (Bob) of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, Jennifer Awotula (Emanuel) of Bear, DE, Dustin Hysinger (Ashley) of Cleveland, Ashley Stout of Cleveland, Meghan Blackmon (Bryant) of Decatur, Krista Morrissey (Matt) of Willow Springs, NC, and Ryan Noel (Catherine) of Raleigh, NC; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 12, 2019 from 2pm to 4pm at Candies Creek Baptist Church. A celebration of life will follow with Pastor Stan Gibson officiating. Burial will be Monday, May 13, 2019 at 12 pm in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will gather at the funeral home to proceed to the cemetery at 11:30am.
